Using cells from an unrelated donor

Mesoblast and its United States-based sister company, Angioblast Systems Inc., have commenced Phase 2 clinical trials in the United States examining the safety and efficacy of allogeneic (derived from universal donors and used in unrelated recipients) Mesenchymal Precursor Cells.

Both companies intend to commercialise 'off-the-shelf' products available for immediate use where speed is critical, such as for patients with compound fractures or heart attacks.

Off-the-shelf products have the commercial advantages of reducing the cost of goods sold as a result of economies of scale and present an attractive option for partnering with international pharmaceutical companies.
